Testimonials
After his accident, my brother was determined to one day live independently, something I never thought he would be able to do.
The transition from living at the Lighthouse (SIL) to his own home terrified me, but with the help of the staff at The Phoenix Network, he achieved his goal.
Their knowledge and experience with TBI’s kept me calm when I wanted to panic and their team was always there to help him to solve issues of day to day living with respect to his limited abilities by assisting him with problem solving with his day to day activities and giving him hands on support where needed.
Knowing there was a team behind him to support his decisions and help him develop strategies enabled him to achieve independence and greatly reduced the stress and worry that I felt.
At a young age, I was hit head on by a drunk driver that almost took my life. Fast forward through a coma, numerous neuropsychological tests, competing with my own insurance company who tried to eliminate my chances of a future and dealing with legal matters, I found myself having to grow up quickly with a horrible disadvantage.
Confused and lost, I was forced to leave my home town and adjust to the city life. The next step was to get treatment and to have a chance, with the little determination I had, to make a life for myself.
Eventually I was connected with a community called The Phoenix Network that took interest in my well being and helped me battle through what would be continuous for the rest of my life.
It wasn’t easy at first, trying to center myself with other TBI adults, but as time went on, I began to learn that they were not so different from myself. Even if they had not experienced an injury or an accident similar to mine. It was also difficult challenge to trust any person who worked there either, until I realized this community was to my advantage and not some strategy my insurance company was using to harmfully affect my legal case.
After years went on and through my ups and down I continued on as a client, veteran and friend with The Phoenix Network, gaining complete independence and a direction in my life.
The Phoenix Network are a community of professionals and clients whose only tactic was to treat me like family. I will never forget that :)

I have been a client with The Phoenix Network since 2011 and have been living in their independent living facility (SIL) in Ottawa.
In the beginning, I was uncertain if I would be able to get the help that I needed and also if I would adapt to this new environment.
Over time, I was able to adapt and met some great people that have helped me along the way.
The staff members have given me the tools and confidence I needed to regain my independence. The Phoenix Network has become part of my family and I am very grateful for all of the support that I have been given.

On January 29, 2014 an accident changed my life. As a result of a serious fall I was diagnosed with a severe cerebral concussion. Luckily my general practitioner was well connected to an amazing acquired brain injury rehabilitation clinic, The Phoenix Network.
From the minute I walked through the doors of the clinic I felt better. They reassured me that all of the symptoms I was experiencing, some of which were very scary, were normal. Up until that point I had no idea what was happening to me. They explained my injury and identified appropriate treatments. They were honest about the seriousness of my injury and told me my recovery would be a long journey but that they could help and would be with me every step of the way.
I worked with members of their rehabilitative team on self-care, on dealing with my loss of identity when I couldn’t work and on using internal and external tools to cope with my memory loss. They provided me with the emotional support and the self-confidence to undertake tasks when I didn’t think I could do them. This was crucial as I continued on my journey to return to work.
They assisted with my social re-integration after months of seclusion and isolation. I am still on my journey to full recovery but I know that I will get there with the support and assistance of the Phoenix team.
